. . . let's discuss one of them:
Arachnophobia {specifically hobophobia}.
We live in a basement apartment. We have spiders.
Take a quarter out of your pocket. Imagine 8 legs on it. Imagine it running towards you as you sit on the floor with your baby. Terrifying? I know.
At first I just hated the spiders, but wasn't too concerned. But then I did some research and learned that the spiders are Hobo spiders. Poisonous, dangerous and popular in Utah. They are often confused for the Brown Recluse spider. Yikes!
I've been obsessing so much about it; it is causing serious problems in my life.
- Every time I pick something up, I hold it as far away from me as possible and shake it out.
- Every time I go into the bathroom (we've seen quite a few in the bathroom), I stick my head in and look around calling out "Hobos? Hobos? Go away any Hobos?"
- I can't fall asleep at night because every fold in my blanket might be a Hobo waiting to bite me if I move.
- I've woken up several times in the night wondering if a Hobo was under my blanket.
- The other night I didn't know I had fallen asleep with my contacts in; when I woke up everything was blurry, I honestly thought I'd been bitten by a Hobo.
- Is every itch on my body from a Hobo bite I didn't feel (when the Hobo actually bites it is often painless)? Do you know how many itches you can find on your body when stop to think about it?
- A loose strand of hair sweeps across my face - Hobo?!?!
My life is out of control with worry about Hobos. Should I seek counseling?
The thing I hate the most about this is I've always tried to pride myself on not being a whinny girly girl.

having lived where you live, I can definetely relate. you're not crazy or over paranoid. we haven't lived there for 1 1/2 years and I still check our shower curtain every morning for any hiding hobos. those things are scary!
this post made me laugh! it totally reminds me of living in hawaii and jumping half way to the moon everytime something moved out of the corner of my eye thinking it was a giant cockroach coming at me. it took me several months to get rid of that habit after moving to az. although to this day i still hallucinate at night about bugs and creepy crawly things in my bed. i guess i can't really compare though, because you're dealing with poisonous things which is WAY scarier than a cockroach. i feel for you!!!
I would be a tad freaked out too. Won't terminix kill the hobo spiders?
I totally feel your pain! EW!! i hate spiders! And I experience excatly what you wrote....I hate spiders!!!!!!
I don't really consider my self a girly girl and I am still super scared of spiders. They can run super fast, they can get huge, they're just creepy and its even worse when they're poisonous. Maybe you can look online for a natural way to get rid of them because you probably shouldn't spray Raid around since Davey can crawel.
We don't have any poisonous spiders her...that I know of, but they still creep me out!! Same with field mice and snakes!!! Good luck!! Love Sue
a spider bit me twice on my eyelid last night!! I look like quasimodo!!! arghhh, so I don't blame you Kristi, not one bit. They are even worse then the giant monster cockroaches at the treehouse :)
Have you seen the spider photos in my mission album?
Now I'm developing a similar fear of running into lizards, which is sad because they're not even scary. They are everywhere. One has been staring at me from the wall of my classroom. Another was in the Relief Society room.
Also, I found a huge huge huge huuuuuuge cockroach in my lunch at school the other day. It ate part of my sandwich. Literally, there was a chunk of missing bread and ham in a little crescent shape.
