Cape Cod: Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Thursday:

While on the trip, Davey slept in our closet. It was a mini walk-in closet with a slotted door. I was really excited to see this in our room because the mat we brought for Davey to sleep on fit perfectly on the closet floor. I thought we could close the door and then Davey wouldn't roll around out of the closet but he could still have air. We realized the first day we put Davey down for a nap one little flaw. The house was old and so when the door was closed all you had to do was push the door and it opened. Door nob turning not necessary.

Another flaw in our trip was Davey got up every morning around 5am (that's 5am eastern folks, also known as 3am Utah time). Davey would push his door open, crawl over to our bed, pull himself up, and hit Joseph on the face until he woke up. Joseph and I took turns going downstairs to play with Davey for an hour, then would go and get the other and switch off.

Thursday morning we put Davey down for a nap (a 7 am nap!). We put a heavy rock, and some of our luggage in front of Davey's door so we thought he could push open his door. I went into the shower; Joseph went downstairs to hang around. When I got out of the shower I heard this story: Alan, Joseph's older brother, heard his phone ring, he went to answer it and saw on his caller ID it was Joseph calling. "Joseph, why are you calling me?" he asked. "I am not," responded Joseph. Alan answered his phone and heard: ahhh ahh ahhh ahhh coming from the other side. Joseph ran upstairs to see Davey, out of his closet, playing with his phone. I guess he didn't want to take a nap and was calling his Uncle Alan for help. We also learned that Davey was never safe by himself in the closet.

That morning we went to play mini golf with our Aunt Jean. The mini golf place was in Yarmouth. Since Davey didn't take a nap and he was tired, we strapped him to Joseph's back and then tied the blanket around him too. Once we started playing Davey fell asleep for the whole time.

Linda

Natalie and Sammie. Don't feel too bad for Natalie, she got the best score out of all the girls, imagine what would have happened with out Samantha.

Me, just moments before a whole-in-one. Don't feel too proud though, I got the worst score out off the whole group.

After mini golf, we went home to get some lunch. Then the boys wanted to go to Long Pond. I decided to stay home because the boys promised me that we would go to Long Pond the next day, Friday, as well. I played a great game called "Buzz Words" with Aunt Jean and Linda.

Thursday night we had George's pizza again. A special request from the birthday boy, Mike. He turned the big One Nine! We also had some cake and ice cream, of course.

Friday:

Friday I woke up at 5am. A new habit I guess. But all was quiet, even Davey, so I went back to sleep. Then shortly after something woke me up. A bang. I looked at my clock to see it go from 5:22 to nothing. The electricity went out. Davey woke up, of course. I went down stairs with Davey and my SIL, Natalie, called the electric company to report the outage. They were really rude to her and told her that they hadn't heard any other complaints so they would get back to her. Of course they hadn't heard any other complaints, it was 5:30 in the morning.

Besides cold pop tarts and no cartoons, the loss of electricity was too bad. Finally at 8:30 an electric truck drove down our street and a little be later the electricity came back on.

The weather outside was cold and rainy. We got ready to go visit our Aunt Sue at her work. She wanted to show off the little babies to her friends, and who could blame her (no partiality whatsoever).

Then we headed off to A&W for lunch. Yet, another long-talked-about experience. This A&W is one of the few of its kinds left. A real A&W, none of this KFC combo stuff.

While we were waiting for our food to cook, yes waiting, because this is real good food. I let Davey play with his baby food jar. Smart move mom! He ended up dropping it and splattered green beans and shattered glass went everywhere! I felt really bad, because I didn't have anything else I could feed to Davey for lunch. But my lunch was really good!

Because of the windy weather, the boys were really excited to go back to Nauset beach for some more wave action. Even Mark, with a ducted-taped foot, went.

I forgot to talk about on Tuesday how Mark, while playing at Long Pond (Joseph and I weren't there, remember we were in New York) stepped on something, we don't know what because he was in a heavily sea weeded area, and had to be rushed to the medical center. He came out with the worst thing for a Cape Cod vacation, 4 stitches. No water, whatsoever. This was such a bummer to Mark, who besides just loves playing at Long Pond as the next Chase boy does, also had plans to go out with Uncle Rocky on the lobster boat that week. Forget the doctor's orders, Mark wanted to enjoy his last day on the Cod.

Obviously the babies couldn't go to Nauset beach with a surf advisory in place. So Natalie and I loaded them all up in the back seat and went to see the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory.

What were we thinking? 3 babies in the back!

I had gotten directions from the Internet on how to get there. They may be able to make fine and delicious potato chips and popcorn, but they are horrible direction givers. If anybody is thinking of visiting while on Cape Cod here are some hints: first, the 6th light is actually called Enterprise were you want to turn (it turns into Independence a few blocks later). Second take the 3rd right which is Breed's Hill, not the second.

I was pretty excited for this little adventure. But when we got there, we found a sign saying the tours were not going today because the factory was shut down for maintenance. boo. But the gift shop with free samples was still open.

We got back home and I hurried to get in my swimming suit because we had planned on meeting the boys at Long Pond for one last swim of the trip. But then it was raining and Natalie didn't want to take her babies out in the rain to go swimming and I thought that it probably wasn't good for Davey either. So I had another afternoon at the house.

We went to dinner at the Grandparent's house again. This time roast and mashed potatoes, yum! This was the last time we were going to see the family on this vacation. Here are a bunch of family pictures we took.

We went home. Packed. And enjoyed our last night on Cape Cod.

Saturday:

On Saturday morning we woke up. Breakfasted. Showered. Finished packing what couldn't have been packed last night. Here I came up with my packing maxim: It takes 10% of the time to pack 90% of the stuff and 90% of the time to pack the remaining 10% of the stuff. Does anyone else find this to be true when they pack?

Then we had to do some "light" cleaning of the house. Pack the cars. Head off to the airport.

Goodbye, Cape Cod!

On the way to the airport we spent 45 minutes going 2 miles due to horrible traffic coming into the Cod. Right at the start of Cape Cod there is a roundabout where all traffic coming in and all traffic going out have to merge from their two lanes each into the one lane of the roundabout. This is horrible planning. Alan and Natalie's family made it to the airport with 1/2 hour until their flight left. Luckily, they made it.

The rest of us had some more time to spare. We ate lunch then had to say goodbye to Mark. Then everybody else went to Joseph and my gate to wait until our flight left. We had about two hours.

Our flight was have weight balancing issues and asked for two passengers to give up their seats. I've always wanted to do this. Joseph and I accepted and they placed us on the same flight as Joseph's parents, plus gave us vouchers for free airline tickets! (that pays for Christmas tickets! yay!)

The flights back were a lot harder. We were all a lot more tired. Lots less excitement.

The End.

The stories of Davey crawling out of the closet had me laughing out loud! I can't believe he was calling people on your phone...so funny!

The phone story I think is the best one of the whole vacation!!! And the fact that he got Alan's cell phone number and not a wrong number or number that couldn't be dialed. Love, Aunt Sue
