Share a Story - Shape a Future

Share a Story - Shape a Future

Today marks the beginning of "Share a Story - Shape a Future" week. The purpose of this week is to help parents (and others) interested in children's literacy learn some new tricks or ideas to help their children to read.

If there has been three things I think a lot about with raising Davey they've been: 1. Eating (how much milk, when to start solids, which solids) 2. Sleeping (how to get him to go to sleep on his own, when can he sleep through the night) and 3. reading (will he like it, will he be good at it).

Reading is really important in my life (especially as a child, it was my number 1 escape) and I hope it will be something that Davey enjoys.

So far I've made sure to read to Davey everyday, take him to the library every week for Books for Babies time and I attend a class once a month on how to get your child ready to learn to read. If Davey ends up not liking to read, I'll have no "what ifs" to worry about.

During "Share a Story - Shape a Future" week, every day will focus on a different topic, with a handful of guest bloggers sharing their ideas. Additionally (this is where you get really excited) a lot of these bloggers are offering give-a-ways for free books during the week.

Here is the schedule:

Day 1: Raising Readers
Day 2: Selecting Reading Material
Day 3: Reading Aloud - It's Fun, It's Easy
Day 4: A Visit to the Library
Day 5: Technology and Reading - What the Future Holds

If your interested visit here!

That is really cool. I bookmarked it so I can refer to the articles for older kids later, when Joshua is older because I know I will need that information later. I am impressed that you read to Davey every day, I try, but Joshua always eats the books. He always wants to eat the book I am reading, even if I give him another book to chew on. I have had more success when I read him the Friend though.

Good job, I am sure Davey will be a reader.

We always have read to Luke at bedtime and now we include Samantha too. I hope yours and my kids grow up to love reading as mush as you and me do.
Thanks for being so great about leaving messages on our blog.
sometimes I feel like a stoker when I check peoples blogs. I usually read the blogs when I'm nursing samantha so I'm not able to type a message.
Thanks for the tip about the template websites.

hey Kristi! What's your mailing address? Send it to emilyrdix@gmail.com.

P.S. I hate daylight savings too...but only the 'spring forward' half.

Hey Kristi,

we had a blast having you guys over, and if you want/need to sew something, like a baby blanket, an apron, or a scripture bag, let me know (those are about all I know how, but if you have another project in mind, i love to learn!)
