Yip Yippee Yippito!

Saturday was our Library (a.k.a the best library ever!) annual Children's Book Festival. Davey and I went last year and had a blast (relive it here). This year the special guest was Judy Schachner, the Big Queso, Dude!

Davey and Gordon just LOVE the Skippyjon Jones books (OK who am I kidding? I love the Skippyjon Jones books) and we read them all the time. Or even better we listen to the CDs. The books are read by the author and she does an amazing job.

Joseph and I were excited to listen to her speak. She told stories about the real Skippy (her cat) and encouraged the kids to keep journals. Davey and Gordon got a little bored during the presentation.

After the presentation, the first 500 kids got to go and pick out a free book. Holy Guacamole, Dude!

The boys showing off their new books. (Randomly they both picked Easter Bunny books)
Last year, Joseph was upset that I didn't get one of the illustrators to draw a picture of Davey. So that was the first thing we did. (Future Note: Davey and Gordon's pictures were drawn by Nathan Hale. He writes comic books illustrating famous events in American History. Totally Awesome! Remember to check these out once Davey and Gordon know how to read comic books to themselves.)

Davey and Gordon went to the craft tables and were able to make Skippito capes and masks. This was my favorite thing. All the kids look so cutie dressed up as Skippito.

While Joseph and I were deciding whether we should pay to buy a Skippyjon Jones book at the festival, we noticed there was a book walk going on where you could win a free book. We decided to try our luck.

Davey "lucky-ducky" Chase was the first kid to win! Woot! (Davey is starting to show a lucky streak. He picked the Kentucky Derby winning horse two years in a row, and now the book walk like it was nothing. Watch out Heat! Davey's got the Pacer's taking it all the way.) We waited to see if Gordon could win a round as well. Gordon was having too much fun dancing around the circle to the mariachi music. We proceeding immediately to get our freshly won book signed.

Us with Judy Schachner. Woot! Woot!
Before leaving the festival, we took a breather at the puppet show theater for some more Skippy fun. Davey said this was his favorite part of the Skippy Party.

This already great day ended with a dinner at Outback as an early Mother's Day present. And since Mother's Day is my favorite day of the year (seriously, check out those two cuties, how could it not be?) I'd have to say "Yip Yippee Yippito!" to this super-ito weekend!
