Kristi's Guide to Provo: Temple Square Edition

Note: I am a little (a.k.a. a whole heck of a lot) behind on my blog posts. Remember when my sister came to visit me in August? Yes, August!

If you are staying within an hour drive to Salt Lake City (such as Provo) a day trip to Temple Square is a must!

If you're LDS: it gives you a chance to see and learn about the history of the church, feel the spirit of the early pioneers, and see famous things (and possibly famous people).

If you're not LDS: it gives you a chance to learn first-hand what those Mormons are all about. Who doesn't love to learn about different cultures and religions, it's fascinating, and Temple Square is just the place to do it.

I've been to Temple Square countless of times since moving to Provo, but I actually experienced a first with my sister. The church office building has an observation deck on its top floor (like the Empire State building or the Stratosphere, except free and there's no line). I highly recommend!

Davey and me (you can see the SLC temple and the Tabernacle) Look at how high we are!

Ray nephews and niece

We also went to the Church History Museum. They currently have a children's exhibit, which I love, it is so fun! This is the prefect place to learn about the history of the LDS people and church.

Here Davey made it all the way through Lehi's vision to the Tree of Life, he even has the fruit in his hand, but he doesn't look sure if he should eat it or not. Eat it, Davey, eat it!

Jarom just being crazy, just because

We also went to the Church History Library, which is brand new and I had never been to and I was very excited about, not recommended, nothing to see.

The Beehive House, they offer free tours of Brigham Young's home.

The Lion House, another home of Brigham Young, this one is turned into a wonderful place to eat good pioneer food.

Other places to visit at Temple Square that we didn't have time for on this trip are:

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building (used to be Hotel Utah) where you can watch a movie and there are two fabulous (so I've heard, never actually eaten there) restaurants.

Two Temple Square Visitor Centers where you can see more exhibits about what the LDS church believes and watch more movies.

The Tabernacle where you can watch a presentation were they demonstrate how you can really hear a pin drop anywhere in the building.

The Family History Library where you can search for you ancestors.

The Conference Center, which offers free tours, and it's beautiful gardens on the roof.

Oh Boy!

So much to do!

All so free!

A fun-packed day!

Sounds like you had a great time with your sis. I love visiting SLC don't know when we'll do it again though. Samantha's teeth are on the bottom. Lets see some more pics of that nephew of mine.
