Caution: if you are a Twilight fan portions of this post may offend you, but take it in stride.
What is a Twilight snob? Someone who has vowed never to read the books or see the movies despite their raving popularity.
Why am I a Twilight snob?
- From what I had heard they sounded really lame.
- I went on-line and read the plot summaries for all four books (eek! I know, so bad) and confirmed my belief that the whole story sounded lame.
- From people that like good literature and have read the book they say the writing isn't good.
Side note: I am some what hypocritical here because I get frustrated at people who wont give Harry Potter a try, especially people who pooh pooh it because of the movie. I'll be the first to agree that the movies are substandard. This is sort of a soapbox issue for me: Never judge a book based on the movie! Countless are probably the people that have missed out on Michael Ende's masterpiece The Never Ending Story because some guy in Hollywood turned it into the worst movie ever made.
However, my dear sister, my own common flesh and blood, turned to the dark side and read the books. Now she is obsessed. And now she is hounding and pounding me to read them. Although I vowed never to read them, I feel my self slipping towards giving in for the following reasons:
- Pure curiosity. What's all the hype about? This is the reason I ended up reading The Da Vinci Code, and I ended up enjoying that book.
- So I can substantiate my view that the whole thing is lame.
- To stop my sister from bugging me.
- So I can have a conversation with about 90% of the Mormon women out there.
Proposition: if you are a Twilight fan, please leave a comment letting me know what you think is so great about the books and why I should stop being a snob and just read them already.
P.S. I typed this whole blog with one hand! (Thanks to Davey's need to be cuddled, oh he is so cute and worth it) Phew, my right hand had a workout!

My take on the Twilight series...I was once a Harry Potter snob, merely because of all the hype...I repented and enjoyed them...anyway...Twilight
So I began reading them before I heard all the hype about them. I would say that it took me a few chapters before I was sucked in. (like the vampire pun?) I love books that have a story that captures my attention and these did that for me. I find them entertaining and a mental escape. I also really like Edward's character. Bella really bugged me until this last book. I told a friend at work and she got into them too...far more passionate about them than I am.
Finally, I don't gush over the series. I enjoyed them...I may read them again...sometime in the future, we'll see. I also don't think of them as literary masterpieces. More like a clean alternative to harlequin novels.
I'm not completely sure what you like, but if you do read them....don't stop before the last one....it is the best by far and I kinda think you'll like it too. ;) Let me know what you think.
I liked them as well. They are not what you would consider high brow literature. They are fun escapism. Don't take them too seriously and you will enjoy them as well. But I will have to say that the last was my least favorite. We all like different things right ;)
I got sucked in and have read two of the books in the series this week. I read one on Monday and another on Tuesday. I am currently suffering from sleep deprivation...
I definitely agree they are not great literature but they are great entertainment which was what I was looking for right now.
If you do read them and they aren't up to par you can still technically be a Twilight snob.
Plain and simple...moms need a chance to indulge in something fun!
I read the first book in the series for our ward book club back in Rexburg and I got hooked. I'm not obsessive about the books, but I did enjoy them and I will see the movie.
These books will never be a classic or anything close.
They aren't writen that great, but these are the first books she has ever writen so I will giver her a break on that. They are good excape books, meaning when you just need some time to get away from your own life they are great books to do that with. I know you're probably saying to your self my life is great and I don't need to excape anything and yes davey is adorable and a newborn can be easire then a two year old but you will come to a point when you will need a break and then maybe you can read them then. Please just try to keep your negative comments about the books until you finely decided to read them.
P.S. I am probably the last person to give advise about children and sleeping, but I thought maybe it would make you feel a little bit better that I know how it feels to have a child that wont sleep. Luke woke up every hour on the hour when he was a newborn. Davey has only been on this earth for a couple of weeks and he will figure things out and you will figure things.
ahhhh little girl, they certainly aren't literary masterpieces but like Lisa said it's a great guilty pleasure and a good chance to slip into a book that moves quickly, and is entertaining. For anyone who has dealt with the angst of a first love it gets you :).
It won't change your outlook on life but it certainly will take you on a good ride. Perfect time to pick it up in your few moments to yourself now that you have a little one.
I'm not surprised Rachel liked it. I think she really is just a romantic at heart :D
I agree with the comments already made; they will not be masterpieces but the story is great.
I thought the fourth one was a great way to end the series.
