Mom's Day and More - Post Script

Mom's Day!

This year, Mom's Day was another wonderful day! The first part of the day was just like any other Sunday (because of Joseph's calling). Then at 2pm, I put Davey into his crib and laid down to take a nap. When Joseph came home 15 minutes later, Davey was still reading some books he had in the crib. Joseph thought that Davey had woken up from his nap but I hadn't heard because I was asleep, instead of the fact that Davey hadn't fallen asleep yet, and Joseph got him up. (Davey ended up going to bed at 5:30 that night, that's what happens to kids in our house when they don't take a nap.)

Davey and Joseph quietly made a wonderful card with Davey's foot and hand print (apparently Joseph tried to scrub Davey's foot and hand after making the card, but the marker wouldn't come off and Davey had a blue hand for a couple of days) and set up some gifts including some candy bars spelling out the word MOM.

Then Joseph came and woke me up from my nap and blindfolded me with one of Davey's blankets and led me into Davey's room where my gifts were set up. I got a game called Set Cubed, which I love! and a world map and a lot of junk food. Joseph also picked out a packet of girl onesies and a cute pink shirt that says: "I love Mom" in case Little Chase is a girl.

After I spent some time looking over my gifts, Joseph said "so, what's for dinner!" I just laughed at him and ended up having leftovers from the night before.

(One summer, I got to spend a week with my Aunt Angela, and she told me: "Expect Nothing and Be Pleasantly Surprised." That has stayed with me, and all though I have been disappointed, this advice has saved me from feeling entitled, which feeling I have seen cause a lot of unnecessary heart ache.)

I didn't expect that Joseph's brother, Elder Mike Chase, who is on a mission, would be allowed to call us, but we got a phone call from him. That was so wonderful and Joseph was lucky to be able to spend a long time talking with him.

Later that night we watched Sherlock Holmes. Overall, it was another great day!

More

Davey is learning so many words all the time! Here are some words Davey has added to his English vocabulary: Help, More, Cracker, Dog, Bird, Milk, Cup, Towel, Time, Church, Jesus, and Stuck. Davey will try to imitate any word we ask him to and he usually does a wonderful job, but those are the words Davey can say by himself.

I can only think of one new sign that Davey has learned since I last made a list: milk. This is really funny because this is the first sign I tried to teach Davey starting at about 5 months of age, but it is the last sign he learned to sign back.

The other night I cut the feet off of one of Davey's pajamas that he was too tall for. Now the PJs fit him and are a little bit cooler for the spring weather. Today Davey found one of the cut off feet and wanted to wear it. He spend the whole morning wearing one of these new "socks."

When I was pregnant with Davey, I told everybody that Joseph and I think we were having a girl. However, every dream I had about the baby, which were many, the baby was a boy. I didn't take much stock in this; I am no Joseph (as in coat of many colors). But when Davey was a boy, I thought I had really missed some obvious signs.

This time I've been waiting for dreams. If the dreams are all the same, I feel that I can assume that will be the gender of my baby. Too bad this time I haven't had any dreams, until last night. (I did have one dream really early on, but there were three babies in my dream 2 boys and 1 girl.) In the dream my baby was a boy. The main part of this dream is that the baby had brown eyes. In my dream I met a blue eyed mom with three brown eyed kids. She told me that all blue eyed moms love to have brown eyed babies. I felt like this lady was lecturing me, which I probably deserve.

However, this is only the first dream I've had so I am not sure what to make of it. Everything else about this pregnancy leads me to feel like I am having a girl. I guess we'll all known in a few weeks.

As far as being pregnant is going I've been dead exhausted since coming home from Texas. I get really torn between saying: "You have 4 weeks left, you shouldn't be expected to do much" and "Stop being so dang lazy!"

I am a big ball of nervousness thinking about labor, breastfeeding and Davey adjusting. Sleeping is a nightmare. But I can't wait to meet Little Chase and I feel completely confident that everything will be worth it times a thousand when I get to hold my new little one.

Post Script: After Davey woke up from his nap, I realized I had missed a ton of words in his vocab. Here are some more: Color, Bye, Yes, No, Door, Doll, Book, Truck, Rock, Popcorn.

Yeah, a pregnancy update! The first little bit after having the baby will be tough as you adjust to life with two little ones. But after a couple months it will all become the norm for you. I hear adjusting to two kids is the hardest, then after that it's a breeze :). Good luck in the following weeks!

It's kind of funny how we forget about the labor part when we get pregnant again and then when it's close to the time we get so scared. I was worried that I wouldn't know I was in labore the second time, but there is no way any one can mistake that for something else. Don't worry about breastfeeding you know what to do if things don't go well, just let the hospital try to talk you into anything that doesn't feel right to you. Why I'm I telling all of this to you? You know what to do. It is hard going from 1 to 2, but I think it will be even hard when I go to 3, I don't have 3 hands.
