Who is Your Hero?

I found this website that sells "cool," "hip," "trendy" posters of Book of Mormon heroes. I think they would look pretty cool in a boy's room.

I saw this one with the women walking and was confused at what Book of Mormon story this was all about. Then I read the scripture that goes along with the poster:

1 Nephi 17:1-3

1 ... And we did travel and wade through much affliction in the wilderness; and our women did bear children in the wilderness.

2 And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings.

3 And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; wherefore, he did provide means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness.

I thought to myself: Yes, these women really were heroes! These are women that I need to try and emulate. These are women who's example I should look toward and follow. Can I be strong like them as I eat the "raw meat" God has given me? Can I do so without murmuring?

I have found my new favorite Book of Mormon heroes. Who are yours?

I've thought a lot about those verses, especially after becoming a mom. Could you imagine having your baby in the middle of the wilderness & then only having raw meat to eat & trying to produce enough milk for your baby off of that? Wow! They were definitely blessed by the Lord, and were definitely AMAZING women to not murmur & stay strong through it all.
